Why are Gaskets Essential to Your Engine?

When you bring in your vehicle for servicing at Cutter Mitsubishi-AIEA, you have probably heard at some point that your engine needs new gaskets, so you probably nod and tell the technician to do it. Do you really know what gaskets do? Most people don't, but they are essential to your vehicle.

Gaskets bond two surfaces together so that liquids or gases can escape into areas where they are not supposed to be. They are able to withstand high temperatures and mold themselves to the surfaces they join to create an ideal seal. Gaskets are engineered specifically for your vehicle.

Even though gaskets are made of multi-layer steel, copper or even rubber, they will eventually wear out. Signs of gasket failure include foaming, gurgling and bubbling with a radiator, white smoke coming from the tailpipe and low cylinder pressure. Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible.
