Sharing the Road with Bicyclists Can be Safer Than You Think

Everyone tends to be in a hurry when they are on the road. This can make for a dangerous situation if you are in an automobile and someone else is riding along on a bicycle. If you want to make sure that everyone makes it home at the end of the day, here are some tips for sharing the road with bikes.

• Bicycles don't have turn signals, but there are a series of hand gestures that riders use to let you know what they'll be doing. Keep an eye out for those alerts.
• If you have to pass a bicycle, leave about 4 feet of space in between you and their bike.
• Take a few extra looks at stop signs. A bicyclist should stop as well, but children often ride right through these areas without paying close attention.
