You are out for a drive on a beautiful day when all of a sudden, you see smoke pouring from your hood. Most people would understandably panic because an overheating engine can be dangerous and expensive. The Cutter Mitsubishi-Aiea team can help fix your problems, and we are here to tell you some of the more common reasons that your engine may be overheating.

Coolant is circulated through your engine to keep it from overheating. A thermostat keeps track of the temperature of the engine, and it allows coolant in when necessary. If the thermostat is damaged, it may not allow the coolant in, which will naturally cause the engine to overheat.

The water pump is responsible for moving the coolant throughout the engine, and cooling it off to the proper operating temp. Water pumps can fail, however, which will rapidly cause problems. In some cases in Aiea, HI, the coolant becomes contaminated, which makes it less effective.
